ST. LOUIS — Rumors from a tip submitted to us are saying that City Academy, the private, independent elementary school located on North Kingshighway Boulevard, will permanently cease operations at the conclusion of the current academic year.

The decision, allegedly finalized during an emergency meeting of the Board of Trustees, brings an unexpected end to the institution's decades-long footprint in North St. Louis. Founded with a mission to provide 100 percent scholarship-backed education to urban youth, school administrators pointed to shifting philanthropic trends, rising operational costs, and structural budget deficits as the primary drivers behind the shuttering.

In a letter sent to our anonymous tipster, a current parent at the school, who said that other families have received similar letters, board leadership expressed deep regret over the closure while outlining a transition plan aimed at helping current PK–6 students transfer to surrounding private, charter, and public school districts. Counseling services and placement fairs are scheduled to begin next week to assist affected faculty and families through the mid-year disruption.

This rumor remains unconfirmed by the school itself, which did not respond for comment. But after financial analysis and interviews from school families we believe it to be true.
