City of St. Louis Awards $4 Million to Bring 250 Tornado-Damaged Affordable Rental Units Back Online

Emergency grant funding distributed to five non-profit groups will finance structural repairs for storm-damaged affordable housing units in North St. Louis.

ST. LOUIS — Municipal leaders have officially awarded $4 million in emergency housing grant funding across five non-profit community development organizations in North St. Louis. The targeted financial injection will fund repairs for approximately 250 affordable rental units that suffered extensive damage during recent severe tornadoes and high-wind events.

The restoration initiative is focused on preserving high-quality housing options for low- and moderate-income working families earning up to 80 percent of the area median income. City housing officials emphasized that rapid rehabilitation of these units prevents resident displacement, stabilizes neighborhood enrollment in nearby schools, and accelerates overall storm recovery efforts in vulnerable communities.
